Fine effort by ntv7 in probing Tai Bak atrocities

The ntv7 Mysiasat documentary on the massacre in southern Thailand screened at 5 pm on Saturday was an eye-opener.

The ntv crew spoke to a number of villagers and victims but I had difficulty understanding their Thai Malay accent. Subtitles would have helped.

Also, I missed the video clips at the start of the programme, so I don't know how "exclusive" they were. But the little snippets that were shown later in the programme were enough to show that the villagers were treated very roughly and inhumanely, dragged on the roads or assaulted by troops. There was even one scene where the villagers were shown stacked in layers like sardines in a truck.

I thought the ntv7 presenter though articulate, sort of spoilt his presentation as his tone sounded angry/emotional/aggressive/loud. Of course such emotions were justifiable - but I felt that a quieter, more level-headed though serious tone could have conveyed the message just as effectively. As it was, viewers might have got distracted watching the presenter vent his rage on screen. But anyway good effort by ntv7 - hope they can carry out the same kind of investigative reporting within the country especially when it comes to exposing high-level corruption in Malaysia.

And how about something on what's happening in Aceh, perhaps interviewing Acehnese who have fled the violence there?

Malaysian TV presenters have always been emotional when presenting news that involve the "intimidation of Muslims".
I have never seen emotions like this from CNN, Fox News, BBc or Channel News Asia or even Singapore Channel presenters.
Thailand have not been victimising Muslims like what Israel does. This is one incident but Malaysians have been too involved in it as though Southern Thailand is part of Malaysia. It's an overkill.
After one officla protest from the Government and opposition, we should let Thailand handle its internal problem without we inflaming it.

Malaysian newscasters and commentators should learn from their international colleagues that maintaining a neutral face adds weight to reports as the audience/listeners are allowed to make up their own minds about an issue. More often, people don't like to be told what to think or how to feel, they prefer doing that themselves. Trying to impose a personal emotion on your audience can actually have the opposite effect of making them disbelieve you or cause them to feel 'put off' resulting in making them feel opposed to your bias.
Professionalism demands neutrality in behaviour to make reporting more credible, no matter what the issue reported on. Hopefully, NTV7 will try to improve and make a significant breakthrough even in reporting national news. Good and balanced analysis of current affairs and politics is a dire need in all mainstream media. So NTV7 are you prepared to take the challenge?

M'sia news caster should stop using the word "penganas" for american and "pejuang" for sucide killers in Iraq. RTM 1,TV3, RTM2.

I think NTV7 should take a neutral stand and interview both sides of the violence (including Thai govt and military that was involved) and let the viewers decide.

This one sided report will not be well received by all except the muslims.
