One-sided debates without context over RTM1

Over on RTM1, the "Warta 1" segment and the "Yang sebenarnya" series is proving interesting for the type of "journalism" being practised. The latter is an election campaign slot at 7:30pm running from 24 February to 7 March.

On 'Warta 1' today, there was a snippet on "reinventing" and a brief interview with Chia Kwang Chye on the meaning of reinventing. Very quick flashes of the DAP slogan under the 'reinventing' slogan, but no explanation, nada. Viewers would only know what it meant if they had read about it elsewhere. The whole thing was out of the blue -- the usual listening in on one side of a debate, and guessing what the other side is saying. No explanation of why it was necessary to have this story, no context, nothing.

English language news on television generally seems one-sided, but nothing like that on RTM1, which makes no pretense whatsoever.

It's all so true. I had been trying to get fair and unbiased news on the election run-up from mainstream TV after a hard day's work but all I see is BN propaganda on news and clips produced by Jabatan Penerangan Negara. Our great Tuanku and past belated PMs' must be turning in their graves by now! How can the current lousy BN claim on TV, the past glorious years as belonging to them? Fed up the next morning, I bought my first Sunday Times in years, which read on the front page 'EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE PRIME MINISTER'. It was just plain BN propaganda and there was nothing exclusive! The worst was I had to pay for it! Below the front page was another cheap shot at our intelligence about who would we choose: BN's '50 Years Of Track Record' or a 'Alliance Of Convenience'? That's so lame. This election is more likely to be on choosing 'Past 5 Years Of Black Record' or a 'Alliance For Change'. Closing one eye, surely the internet is fair and just in it's reporting. Pray the voters will not be hoodwinked this time. Syabas To Malaysia come 8 March!!
